FOUR ROERFONTEIN RESIDENTS SENT STRAIGHT TO JAIL FOR PUBLIC VIOLENCE AND ARSON

SEKGOSESE – About four Roerfontein residents sent straight to jail after were found guilty by Tiyani Magistrate Court in connection with the torching of a double storey house and Toyota truck belonging to Lawrence Mahlakanya.

The convicted are three females, Suzan Rambau (40), Mahlodi Makoro (55), Mavis Seisa (49) who were sentenced to three years in prison and a 36-year-old man, Matome Winners Mokoma who was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

All of them were found guilty of public violence and arson on the 13th of November 2020 and were sentenced to prison without fine.

This was confirmed by Warrant Officer Phalela Mashao, the Spokesperson of police in Sekgosese.

It was revealed in previous court appearance that, a torched house worth 1.7 million rands while the truck worth R200 000.

Mahlakanya’s properties were burnt down in the 7th of May 2018 following a suspicion that he had something to do with the murder of a 14-year-old girl from Roerfontein village in Sekgosese area. The suspicion led the angry mob to take law into their hands.
