FATHER AND BOYFRIEND ARRESTED FOR RAPING A MINOR

A case of statutory rape has been opened after a 15-year-old girl was raped by both her 25-year-old boyfriend and 40-year-old biological father from a village around Giyani area.

It is alleged that the father of the victim went to look for her after she left home on Saturday and he found her at her boyfriend’s house and he immediately took her to open a case of statutory rape against her boyfriend who is older than her.

The local social workers were informed by the police for further assessments which revealed that the father has also assaulted her twice on separate occasions in 2019 and 2020 and thereafter he threatened her not to tell anyone. The police were immediately informed of these revelations and they arrested both suspects.

Moreover, the Police Provincial Commissioner in, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned the incident after the two perpetrators were arrested yesterday.

“As we continue to fight against the scourge of Gender Based Violence including the sexual offences, it is very disturbing that even those meant to protect their own children are also involved in these crimes. We commend the police for acting swiftly in arresting both suspects,” concluded General Ledwaba.

Police investigations are continuing and both suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on 29 October 2020 facing charges of rape and statutory rape.
